HELI-HIKING

Not all hikes are the same and these high routes lift you directly into the heart of the alpine without braving crowded trailheads or grinding miles uphill.
This heli-accessed hiking program takes guests and their guides directly into the high country with endless alpine vistas extending to the horizons, versus the long hours of obscured views one might spend on a regular mountain trail. Matched to group dynamic, these guide-led high routes provide not just outdoor activity but also a wealth of local knowledge on Canadian mountain flora, fauna, geology and history—as well as their stories from lifetimes spent in these mountains. From gaining vertical on established trails to viewpoints of dramatic glaciers or routefinding across open terrain framed by wildflower meadows, the experience of heli-hiking is defined by solitude, wonder, education and awe around every corner.

How it works
Our supplier use the helicopters to get into the best part of the mountains safely and efficiently. They fly guests out into the field, leave them for an intimate experience in the natural world, then return them to the lodge for the best in high-country hospitality.

Grouping
The goal is for each guest to experience the alpine paradise of their chosen destination in the way that suits them best. Guides meet every morning and evening to create a plan for each guest. With groups of up to two guides and 11 guests in a Bell 212 helicopter, each day is tailored to all levels of fitness, experience and age. We split the groups as necessary so everyone can stay within their comfort level.

Flying & Hiking
Each day offers the chance to heli to new adventures – with exclusive access. On average guests can expect two to three helicopter trips per day, moving between different locations. Whether it’s exciting via ferrata and glacier treks, casual photo sessions in wildflower fields, short hikes through fantasy-like scenery or a combination of all of the above.

Exploring & Learning
Not only are guides highly qualified, they have engaging personalities, a contagious sense of adventure and a flair for storytelling to match. Guests will learn about local ecosystems, geology, flora and fauna as they explore the mountains safely together.

WILDERNESS LODGES

Wilderness Luxury
The local supplier imported the idea of wilderness mountain luxury from the hut culture of the European Alps—but during the last six decades they put a truly Canadian spin on the concept. From distinctive lodge architecture and a casual, relaxed feel to a family-style hospitality—they’ve created environments that match luxury with location. They feature cozy guest rooms with private baths and great rooms with grand fireplaces and deep armchairs. From handpicked wine cellars and a fine selection of single malt to the highest standards of service, these lodges are not roughing it.

Culinary Excellence
Bringing everyone together to break bread has always been an essential element of this experience. Meticulously prepared by award-winning chefs, gourmet meals are served family-style in the alpine tradition—with guides and senior staff—providing an opportunity to connect and create friendships in this unique mountain setting. They pay close attention to individual dietary restrictions and it is never an issue to tailor the menu selections to personal needs. Allergies? No problem. Vegan? No problem. Observing a focused diet such as paleo, Whole30 or gluten-free? No problem. Each lodge also employs a fine pastry chef, meaning it’s always a good idea to save room for dessert. The best part is that clients don’t need to hassle with reservations or haggle over the dinner bill.
